Most businesses do not allow office affairs. They have their reasons and all of which are obvious. It is not very advisable to have an office affair. The cons more often outweighs the pros. Having an office affair creates an uncomfortable environment for other co-workers, creates a feeling of inseparability of the two more than of being a team with the other members. If the partner is a boss, this affair is seen to be one that gives the other privileges, creating an environment of animosity between the one and the other workers. Having an office affair may seem like a good answer to one’s calling of the libido but it often causes trouble in one’s career; or may harm one professionally.

However, many have given in to this particular temptation. However, like most affairs they can only last for a period of time. When it ends, it is often messy, always unnerving.

So how can one handle the end of an office affair?

Separate like adults. Do not go all mushy and blame one another. If you felt you are mature enough to engage in an office affair, then you must be mature and responsible enough to end it amicably, without the unnecessary resentment and other emotional baggage.

Another thing is to do more than just refrain from wailing in agony. Don’t cry or bitch about him / her. If there is one thing that sounds more irritating than a doe eye exchange, it is that. This is where you test yourself professionally.

Get over it. Move on. Perform your feelings. Vent it out productively. The affair may have ended but your life doesn’t have to.
