Could someone have saved this child from the danger

COULD SOMEONE HAVE SAVED THIS CHILD FROM THE DANGER?

This story was relayed to me.  I just hope it actually did not happen though I am told it really did happen.

A man wrapped in a towel holds his baby in his arms  and throws the baby up into the area in the process of one of his most favorite common games with the dear infant.

That’s not the issue  but look at this ….

Suddenly the towel falls off. And Hell breaks loose.

The man, too conscious of exposing what is below the towel to some grown up children and an elderly woman around, quickly bends to pick the towel to hide his shame.

The elderly woman, too conscious of the shame of letting the children to see the elderly man’s shame, quickly applies her “wisdom” and shields the eyes of the children so that they don’t see too much of the abominable…. But- not so good a job .

Then as the fallen baby yields its first audible call for help, the sweet mother shocked and angry, quickly vents out the worst from her heart through the mouth to the careless husband who she has repeatedly warned against this very very extremely dangerous and un recommendable stupid and foolish game with an innocent  baby… And then bends to gently pick screaming baby who is writhing with the pain.

I did not ask anything. It came as a shock.

If  I were the one…. I would…. I think ….let me not say it first.

Okay If it were you, what could you have done first.

Rescue the infant before picking the towel up, or cover the shame, or face the irresponsible woman first.  This is not for jokes. We need some serious thinking here.

Unfortunately the infant remains injured and perhaps scared for the rest of its life.

Now on a serious note. Child producers in Northern Uganda you have some great work to do.  Especially for those children born in IDPs .

Why?

On the International Human Rights day this year (10th December 2009), a  symposium in ChurchilL Courts  Hotel Gulu  it was revealed that  some elderly research respondent exclaimed that  children born in  IDP camps are not children per se… He went on to mis-advise- that people returning to villages in the present resettlement period  should produce real children because those of IDPs are misbehaved and etc.  The researcher, Mr Stephen Langole of Gulu University gave this example to underscore the importance of how a lot needs to be done to respect the right of the child especially in this post conflict period.
